Eucalyptus globulus is a medium-sized evergreen of the Myrtaceae family. Though native to Australia and its neighbouring islands, several species of the Eucalyptus are now cultivated in forestry plantations in temperate regions throughout the world. Eucalyptus globulus can grow up to 60 ft tall, with its extensive roots penetrating deep into the ground. The bark on the lower part of the massive trunk is often rough and brown in hue, while the upper bark is smooth and pale with a hint of blue. Mature Eucalyptus globulus bears aromatic white flowers surrounded by dark green leaves. These leathery leaves contain glands that produce the highly aromatic oil that the Eucalyptus is best known for.

Eucalyptus globulus essential oil is a highly-valued antiseptic proven particularly effective in eliminating certain strains of the deadly Staphylococcus bacteria. It can be applied externally on cuts and minor wounds to prevent infection. Due to its antibacterial properties, Eucalyptus globulus oil is used to fight plaque-causing bacteria and is a common treatment for gum disease and gingivitis.

For hundreds of years, Eucalyptus globulus essential oil has been a noted treatment for various afflictions.
