Cypress is an evergreen conifer of the Cupressaceae family that thrives in the temperate and sub-tropical regions of Asia, Europe and North America. Cypress trees are pyramidal in shape and can grow as high as 80 feet. It has small flowers with round brownish cones that usually grow near the tips of particular branches. Mature Cypress has aromatic leaves that are small, pressed closely to branch. Several species of Cypress produce different variations of its essential oil. Oil from Cupressus sempervirens is considered best in quality and can be extracted from the needles and twigs by water or steam distillation.
