Palmarosa is a scented grass found indigenously in the Indian sub-continent. It belongs to the family of Poaceae, which might well be regarded as nature's copycats, for they all contain a number of elements which are found in rarer and more costly plants and give them their characteristic scent. Palmarosa essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the grass, and is often used as an adulterant in Rose essential oil, although its scent can be described as more of a cross between Rose and Geranium.

In traditional Indian medicine, Palmarosa essential oil has a long history of use in the treatment of fevers and infectious diseases due to its powerful anti-bacterial properties. It is an effective bactericide that works against a wide range of bacteria, especially those that cause intestinal infections such as gastroenteritis. It can kill Escherichia coli bacteria in five minutes. Palmarosa essential oil is also an excellent digestive stimulant that helps improve appetite and speed up digestion.

Palmarosa essential oil is also valuable in skin care. Its ability to stimulate cellular regeneration helps to keep the skin young and healthy. It has a hydrating effect that can balance sebum production. Due to its antiseptic properties, Palmarosa essential oil can also be used as a treatment for acne, dermatitis and other skin infections. Regular use can tone the skin and lessen the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The scent of Palmarosa has sweet and floral top notes with undertones that subtly hint of Lemon and Rose-Geranium.

Palmarosa has a calming scent that helps relieve stress, anxiety and restlessness. The fragrance is also uplifting and comforting and can significantly lessen negative emotions such loneliness and insecurity.
